Renaissance Fair is coming up on April 25. Stop by the SBRT to race on the rollers. There’s some talk that there might be a prize for the best ride.
Whoa, baby, all great intentions get laid to waste especially in the blogosphere. I cooked up the team blog hoping to be more inclusive in the Dutch Wheelman’s racing and riding exploits but things just didn’t work out that way. I’m as much to blame as anyone.
But, thanks to Bob M. we do have some new things to share – pictures!! On June 14 a bunch of the guys traveled to Wellsboro Pa. to compete in the Laurel Flyer – a 24-mile citizens race. Based on the photos its looks like Thor took the big prize. The following week Bob snapped a bunch of pix during the perennial Bloomsburg Town Park Crit.
And speaking of The Crit weekend we also hosted a nice masters road race championship the day before. The Scotch Valley course is nice – it has a little something for every type of rider but in the end it makes sure the best end up first.
Enjoy the photos and I’ll try harder to drop a post now and again.

I just received the official results from Art this morning – a spreadsheet forwarded from Chip of the Lehigh Wheelman. I scrolled to the bottom of the sheet, a few rows below the last score and in a box reads “NOTE: All teams were called Wheelman for the Day.”
It was the 20th Wheelman’s Cup this year. Wow, it’s hard to believe that we’re part of what is now officially a tradition. In a day and age when people prefer to text message one another instead of talking face-to-face, that we can set aside a few moments to gather as friends to race bikes. It’s especially noteworthy because we usually do it in not so nice weather. Except for this year…
Cloudy, changing to clear skies, 50 degress, and not raining, not snowing, not sleeting. Just nice springtime racing weather, imagine that!
Event: six-man team time trial, five miles (five laps) of the Berwick test track followed by a 42-lap (42 miles) points race. First 21 laps sprint for points every three laps, final 21 laps run as a crit. We were missing a few key riders this year rolling with 10 riders, so we had to race smarter than ever. Well, I can only speak for myself and I can say mission not accomplished. A silly move on my part leading into the last sprint initiated a split in the field – half of us made the break, the others didn’t. You can’t rack up finish points if you don’t have riders in the front group. See what happens when you loose your patience!
Lehigh came loaded for bear – lots of riders and most of them really fast. Rumors have it that many of them had at least half a dozen races in their legs already. And Chip, now that he’s retired, has nothing better to do than peddle his bicycle. He rode like a man possessed leaving many younger, but feeble riders in the dust. And so it went – Dutchies third overall, beaten by Lehigh and Sickers. Hot Tomales finished forth.
